The novel was controversial at the time of its publication, because it represented revolutionary independence from a tropical African country, before the first such independence by the Gold Coast. The narrative is a gripping one that evokes all sorts of emotions in the reader as they follow their heroes on their journey to achieving their dreams and it shows that even heroes can become villains in their bid to achieve their dreams.
